Ms Murphy's Class

What a busy November and December we had in Junior and Senior Infants!

In Maths we were learning about patterns and measuring. We measured the length of lots of items in the classroom using our hands/feet/lollipop sticks and cubes. The children worked in pairs guessing and measuring the length of each other when we were lying flat!

In Literacy we practised the genre of procedural writing. We wrote the steps of how to make a jam sandwich including ingredients and the method. The children drew pictures afterwards and senior infants beautifully labelled their drawings. They even got to sample the fruits of their labour afterwards :)

We learned all about the season of Winter in Geography and went on a winter walk around the school to see could we spot signs of winter anywhere. We saw robins, bare trees, lumps of ice and lots of frost on the ground.

We had a special visitor come to the class in November who was a storyteller. She told us some great interactive stories where we got to be part of the story by using our voices for certain parts and we got to 'act' out sections of the story too - it was great fun!

In History we looked at our favourite toys now and toys we played with when we were babies. The children all brought in their favourite toys and spoke to the class about their toy and why they chose them!

As part of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) the children were given the challenge to design and make their own free standing Christmas tree using materials found in the classroom and the results were very imaginative!

Santa paid us a visit in December too and we got lovely Christmas annuals and treats that kept us busy in the class.

We look forward to the break after working so hard this term!

Happy Christmas from Junior and Senior Infants in Monageer NS!
