We made the most of the fine weather this January and February by taking our math lessons outside and using our "maths eyes".
Junior Infants are learning all about number 3 and 4 and Senior Infants are learning about numbers 8 and 9. We made sets of 4 objects and 9 objects in hoops and found the numbers on signs and number plates.
We also learned about 3D shapes and got to build towers using them. We figured out that some 3D shapes can stack easily like cubes and cuboids whereas cones and spheres can't. We learned that some 3D shapes can roll well and others can only slide.
We learned a poem about 3D shapes that goes like this "3D shapes are fat not flat, a cone is like a party hat, a sphere is like a bouncing ball, a cuboid is like a building tall, a cyclinder is like a can you pop, a cube is like a dice you drop. 3D shapes are here and there, 3D shapes are everywhere"
We made beautiful salt dough heart shapes for Valentines Day and celebrated Grandparents Day in school by having a mass service and having visits from our grandparents or VIP in the classroom.
The children learned about space and the planets of our Solar System in SESE and they made beautiful spaceships in art. We listened to the story about Neil Armstrong and Alex in the class said he would love to be an astronaut when he is older!
We started our GAA skills with Nigel every Friday and so far have been loving it so much - definitely future all stars in this class!
The children are still practicing their sounds and tricky words weekly and their reading has shown huge improvement in the last few weeks!
Here's to a busy March and April in Junior and Senior Infants in Monageer NS!
